If your precious Cavoodle, Labradoodle, or Spoodle has ever had to wear one of those rigid plastic cones after a vet visit, you’ll know the look of despair they give you. Those old-school “Elizabethan collars” might stop them from licking wounds or stitches — but they’re bulky, uncomfortable, and stressful for our oodles.
Good news: there are far better options out there! Here are some much kinder, comfier alternatives to help your pup recover without the trauma of the dreaded “cone of shame.”
Soft Fabric Cones
These are shaped like traditional cones but made from lightweight, flexible fabric with soft padding around the neck. They still prevent licking but don’t bang into walls or scrape furniture. Plus — they’re so much gentler on your pup’s neck and vision.

Inflatable Donut Collars
These comfy, air-filled rings sit around your dog’s neck like a travel pillow. They stop your oodle from turning their head to reach wounds, but allow them to move freely, eat, drink, and cuddle up without discomfort. Bonus: they look hilarious and adorable!

DIY Alternatives
If you’re in a pinch or prefer a budget-friendly option, get creative at home:
- Soft baby onesies can cover stitches on the body.
- Old T-shirts can be tied securely to cover wounds.
- Rolled towels or neck pillows can sometimes work for short-term recovery.
Just make sure your makeshift option is snug, breathable, and vet-approved.
TIP: Buy baby onesies at Kmart or a discount store to save money

Why It Matters for Oodles
Oodles are sensitive, social, and playful dogs. Restricting their movement or blocking their sight with hard plastic cones can cause unnecessary stress, anxiety, and even injury. By choosing a softer, more comfortable alternative, you’re helping your pup heal happily — and keeping those oodle tail wags going strong!
