Neo’s Preventative Health Journey
Imagine knowing what your dog’s potential issues were ahead of time?
That’s what Hugo Health does … let me explain how.
Anyone that knows me knows how much my furbabies mean to me. As a lifelong dog owner and dog sitter, my world revolves around dogs.
Having experienced the heartbreak of losing several dogs over the years, my goal is to always give them the best care I can so they live a long and healthy life.
We are aware of Latte’s health issues as a 16+ year old and have been making sure she gets everything she needs from diet to tests and lots of love.
Our beautiful cavoodle Neo has recently showed a few behavioural changes and small things I have been noticing day to day so when Hugo Health popped up on my Instagram feed, I was immediately intrigued.
Hugo Health is an advanced pet health check and takes a preventative rather than reactive approach to their health. So rather than waiting for symptoms or illness to show up then seeking treatment, you are taking proactive action to find out what these issues might be in advance.
This is exactly what I needed for Neo. I was worried about what I was seeing so I booked an appointment with Hugo Health to do a full health check on him.
So let me explain the process we went through
- I had a short call with Hugo Health to talk about Neo, potential issues and things I was seeing
- They sent a test kit so I could collect urine and poop samples the morning of his vet appointment
- A vet come to the house and did a full physical exam as well as taking a blood sample
- These results were sent for detailed analysis. Note that blood was tested for 80 markers not the standard 19-20 in a normal blood test.
- About a week later I received a detail report across all areas of Neo’s health – weight, teeth, heart, liver, kidneys, skin & coat, Skeletal, gut, immune system… it covers it all in detail.
RESULTS
We were aware that Neo had some back pain and a minor heart murmur previously. The results showed us several concerns that we needed to address
- He has cataracts
- Higher level heart murmur (which had increased in 3 months)
- Potential Mitral valve disease in his heart
- Back pain at a higher level than we suspected
- Pre-renal azotemia (can be reversible with extra hydration)
With the report comes recommendations in all areas so you know what needs to change, what is priority and what other potential tests they need.
A few recommendations for our boy Neo were:
- Get an echocardiogram to measure severity of heart murmur and do a full heart check
- Change his diet to remove fat and include more fish, bone broth and adding Green Lipped Muscle powder or joint support supplement.
- Limiting jumping and use the all-paws-on-the-floor philosophy
- Monthly Baranso pain injections for his back
This experience has been invaluable. The fact that we can get this level of report and understand what his current and potential issues are, is amazing. I am so glad this type of service exists.
If we did not do the Hugo Health testing we would not have been aware of the increased heart murmur, IVDD (intervertebral Disc Disease), the level of his eyesight loss, the dehydration and what he actually needs from a diet perspective. Knowing these things, we can now make the changes we need to give him a more comfortable, happier, less painful future.
I would highly recommend a Hugo Health check regardless of their age. These yearly checks will make a difference to your dogs life.
