Easing Anxious Oodles Into Daycare
At 3 Spoilt Dogs, we are very used to dealing with anxious oodles. We know that some dogs may feel anxious about being in a new environment so our goal is to make their transition as smooth and comfortable as possible.
Here’s how we approach easing anxious dogs into daycare:
Initial Meet and Greet
We always start with a Meet & Greet with the dogs and their owners. This allows us to assess the dog’s temperament and introduce them to our facility in a low-pressure setting. Owners can see our home, ask questions and see where their dog will be spending time.
Gradual Introduction
For anxious dogs, we recommend starting with short visits. Initially, a half day will help them acclimate. During this time, we focus on positive interactions, ensuring they have a comfortable space and plenty of attention from our staff.
Personalized Attention
We observe each dog’s behaviour closely and offer extra reassurance to those that may be feeling anxious. This might include gentle petting, engaging them in play, or providing a cozy spot where they can retreat if they need a break.
Positive Reinforcement
We use positive reinforcement techniques to help dogs associate daycare with good experiences. Whether it’s treats, toys, or praise, we make sure that their time here is filled with positive moments. This encourages them to look forward to coming back.
Socialization with Care
For dogs that are anxious around other dogs, we introduce them slowly into group play. We start with smaller playgroups and gradually increase the number of dogs as they become more comfortable. We monitor interactions closely to ensure that all dogs feel safe and secure.
Routine and Consistency
We establish a consistent routine for drop-off and pick-up times. Dogs thrive on predictability, and having a set schedule helps reduce anxiety. We encourage owners to keep their goodbyes short and positive to help ease the transition.
Open Communication with Owners
Maintaining open lines of communication with pet owners is so important. After your dog’s visits, we provide updates on their behaviour and any concerns we may have. This allows owners to feel connected and informed about their dog’s adjustment process.
Patience and Understanding
We recognize that some dogs may take longer to adjust than others. That is why we are patient and provide the necessary time and support for each dog to feel comfortable in their new environment. We celebrate small victories, whether it’s a wagging tail or a playful bark.Â
As a boutique home based daycare , we create a welcoming and supportive environment for anxious dogs. Through careful introductions, personalized attention, and positive reinforcement, we strive to help every dog feel at home. Our ultimutt goal is to ensure that they enjoy their time with us and look forward to returning!
