Should Your Oodle Sleep on Your Bed? The Pros and Cons

If you own an oodle, chances are you’ve already lost control of your personal space. These little charmers have a way of convincing you that rules don’t apply to them, especially when it comes to bedtime. After most of them identify as human, not dog. LOL

One minute you’re vowing that “the dog will never sleep on the bed,” and the next you’re hanging off the edge of your mattress while your oodle snores contently on your pillow. So, is letting your oodle sleep on your bed a good idea? Let’s weigh up the pros and cons before you surrender the duvet entirely.

The Pros

  1. Instant Cuddle Buddy
Forget hot water bottles. Your oodle is a warm, fluffy, self-heating cuddle machine. They’ll happily curl up against you, providing warmth on chilly nights and emotional comfort when you’re feeling flat. They don’t charge for their services either, so they are much cheaper than therapy (and cuter, too).
  2. They Make You Feel Safe
Okay, so your oodle may not be the fiercest guard dog in the world, but their ears are tuned to every creak and shuffle in the house. Even if the worst they can do is alert you to the postman at 7am, it’s reassuring to know someone is on night watch.
  3. Strengthened Bond
Sharing your sleeping space can deepen the bond between you and your dog. Your oodle wants nothing more than to be close to you, and snoozing side by side can make them feel secure and part of the pack. Plus, who doesn’t love waking up to those big brown eyes and getting a face bath packed with love.
  4. Stress Relief
Studies show that pets help reduce stress and lower blood pressure. Falling asleep to the sound of your oodle’s gentle snores is basically the canine version of white noise therapy. Cheaper than meditation apps and way more adorable. And we all know that dogs snores are super cute (unlike your partners snores)

The Cons

  1. You Will Lose All Legroom
Your oodle may look small, but don’t be fooled. Once they hit the mattress, they expand like a fluffy octopus, claiming prime real estate in the centre of the bed. You’ll find yourself contorting into strange shapes, all in the name of not disturbing their majesty. I know from YEARS of experience.
  2. The Shedding and Smell Factor
No matter how well-groomed, oodles bring with them a sprinkling of fur, the occasional muddy paw, and the faint scent of “dog” that lingers in your sheets. You might as well set up a laundry account just for your bedding, especially if they shed. You can forget the white doona cover if your oodle sleeps on your bed.
  3. Sleep Quality May Suffer
Dogs dream. Dogs snore. Dogs twitch their legs like they’re chasing imaginary rabbits at 3am. All of which means you may wake up more often than you’d like. If you’re a light sleeper, you might end up feeling less rested than your happily snoozing pup.
  4. Boundaries? What Boundaries?
Letting your oodle on the bed can set a precedent. Before you know it, they’re insisting on the best pillow, demanding to be tucked in, and looking at you with disdain when you dare to roll over. Remember: once they’ve claimed the bed, there’s no going back.

The Verdict

Like most things in life with an oodle, it comes down to what works for you. If you’re willing to trade personal space and pristine sheets for a nightly dose of love, warmth, and companionship, then sharing your bed is one of life’s sweetest pleasures. Pawsonally I love it and happy to move to make room for them.

But if you value uninterrupted sleep, clean linen, and the ability to stretch your legs without fear of being growled at, you might want to invest in a deluxe dog bed and teach your oodle to love it.

Either way, just know this: your oodle will always try to sneak under the covers. Because in their mind, the bed belongs to them, you’re just lucky enough to share it.
